Due studenti universitari di nome Kei Kurono e Kato stanno tentando di aiutare un ubriaco che è caduto sui binari del treno della metropolitana. Quest’ultimo sopravvive, mentre i due amici sono sono investiti dal treno in arrivo. Nell’istante successivo, vengono trasportati in una strana stanza di un appartamento dove ci sono altri che, come loro, dovrebbero essere morti. Nel centro del salotto c’è un enigmatico globo nero noto come ‘GANTZ’. GANTZ obbliga ciascuno di loro a partecipare a una missione per dare la caccia e uccidere gli alieni, fornendo loro attrezzature e armi.

College students Kei Kurono and Kato are attempting to help a drunk who has fallen onto the subway train tracks. The latter survives, while, both friends are run down by the oncoming train. In the next instant, they are transported to a strange room in an apartment where there are others who should be dead as well. In the center of the living room is an enigmatic black orb known as ‘GANTZ’. GANTZ forces each of them to take part in a mission to hunt down and kill aliens, providing them with equipment and weaponry.
