Case study – (Co)producers in Europe
Science-fiction from Central Europe: “Restore Point”
“Restore Point” is the first Czech sci-fi movie in 40 years, and it’s the result of a “local”, entirely Central-European co-production between Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Serbia, testifying to a more and more widespread renaissance of genre cinema. It has been generating a buzz on the industry circuit ever since pre-production (it was the first Czech project ever to be pitched at the Asia Film Financing Forum, followed by the Network of Asian Fantastic Films in Bucheon, Frontières and Baltic Event in Tallinn), and was finally picked up for international distribution by XYZ Films. A successful film production case, presented by its director, Robert Hloz.

Case study – (Co)producers in Europe
“Films should be made collectively”: the “UFO Sweden” case
“UFO Sweden”, the opening film of the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival, is the last production of the Swedish film collective Crazy Pictures. Starting from a few shorts released on YouTube in 2009, the collective quickly grew up and achieved international success with the feature films “The Unthinkable” (2018) and “UFO Sweden” – while always keeping true to its philosophy: creating movies as a group, from the initial idea to the finished product, and making local films (especially genre films) for the whole world. Producer Albin Petersson will expose how the film was produced and the peculiar way they usually work at Crazy Pictures.

An informal survey of the distribution of genre films together with Ludovico De Cesare from Plaion Pictures (formerly Koch Media) – one of the main players in the sector in Italy – to understand the state of health of genre cinema.
