Un ragno alieno alto 15 metri scappa da un laboratorio militare devastando l’intera città di Los Angeles. Quando anche un imponente intervento militare fallisce, sarà l’ora di unire le forze di scienziati, soldati e di Alex, uno scaltro disinfestatore nel suo giorno di pausa, per uccidere la creatura prima che la città venga distrutta. Jose, una guardia giurata messicana, è la spalla di Alex e lo accompagnerà in questa missione. Come Don Chisciotte e Sancho Panza, i due formano una coppia perfetta nella quale Alex vorrebbe interpretare l’eroico cavaliere. Mike Mendez è nato a Los Angeles nel 1973. Ha esordito alla regia nel 1996 con il film Killers, invitato al Sundance Film Festival. Nel 2002 ha prodotto per Universal Television e Showtime il documentario televisivo Masters of Horror. Successivamente ha diretto la horror comedy The Convent (2000), presentata al Sundance, e The Gravedancers (2006), proiettato in anteprima al Tribeca Film Festival. Big Ass Spider! è il suo quinto lungometraggio.
A 50-foot-tall alien spider escapes from a military lab and rampages the city of Los Angeles. When a massive military strike fails, it is up to a team of scientists, soldiers, and one clever exterminator to kill the creature before the city is destroyed. Our hero, Alex, is a blue collar Western Exterminator on his day off. Alex’s side-kick, Jose, is a Mexican Security Guard who joins him along the way. They make together a bit of a Don Quixote / Sancho Panza duo which might actually work to a song because, as Don Quixote, Alex is a bit of a self-proclaimed Knight-in- shining-armor. Of course, once he kills the spider, he finally lives up to his own expectations.
