Trieste returns as the Science Fiction capital from 29th October to 3rd November with the 40th “Trieste Science+Fiction” festival, organised by La Capella Underground.
Amongst the first titles to be announced in the official selection, in their Italian preview:
Open Windows, from Spanish director Nacho Vigalondo (winner of the Asteroid award with Los Cronocrimenes), this techno-thriller with Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey has already been praised as ‘The Rear Window of the digital era’;
Honeymoon, American director Leigh Janiak’s debut film, this drama about a couple has mystery and sci-fi and supernatural elements;
Coherence, from American James Ward Byrkit (one of the screen-writers of ‘Rango’), a ‘mind-bender’ that looks at Quantum mechanics, theoretical physics and parallel universes from unusual perspectives;
The Last Days On Mars by Irish director Rauri Robinson, the story of an astro-zombie living on Planet Red, an adaptation of Sydney J. Bound’s science-fiction novel The Animators.
Witching & Bitching from Álex de la Iglesia, winner of 9 Goya awards (the Spanish Oscars), in preview with collaboration from Officine Ubu.
The Spazio Italia section will host some home-grown Italian productions of sci-fi short films, documentaries and full-length features. In the line-up of special events, there will be a tribute and round-table discussion dedicated to Mario Bava in the centenary year of the birth of the unforgettable ‘maestro’ of Italian cinema. Lastly, there will be a series of unmissable workshops and talks, all rounded off by the Premio Nocturno for emerging directors, master classes organised with the University of Trieste and special events dedicated to comic strips, literature and science with the ‘Futurology Talks’, in collaboration with leading scientific institutions from the region.
