It is 1917 and Allied and German forces are at arms in the devastated lands of the western front. One night, terrified British soldier Charlie Shakespeare is forced at gunpoint to leave the Allied trench and advance on the German line, only to see his friends die one after another. When the battle is over, Charlie and a few other survivors find supposed refuge in an abandoned German trench, but a mysterious force lies in wait to to terrify them anew.
