In a not so distant future, the code indicates rank and social status of the person who bears it, and only those who have the purest DNA can hope for a good future. Vincent wants to become a space pilot, but, not being a test-tube baby, he has to use illegal ways if he wants Gattaca to choose him as one of its members.
