Il protagonista del film attraversa i momenti più significativi della storia brasiliana. Restando vivo per oltre 600 anni, è lui stesso il narratore diretto degli eventi che si svolgono in quattro diversi periodi storici: attraversandoli, si schiererà sempre dalla parte dei più deboli e si riunirà con la donna che ama. La sua storia d’amore, che va oltre la vita e la morte, ripercorre le vicende del Brasile dalle guerre tribali precoloniali fino all’esaurimento dell’acqua in una Rio de Janeiro di un futuro non troppo lontano.
Sceneggiatore e regista, Luiz Bolognesi si è diplomato in giornalismo alla PUC di São Paulo. Ha firmato, tra gli altri, gli script di Bicho de Sete Cabeças (Brainstorm, 2001), O Mundo em Duas Voltas (The World in Two Round Trips, 2006) e Chega de Saudade (The Ballroom, 2007). Con Marco Bechis ha scritto la sceneggiatura di Birdwatchers – La terra degli uomini rossi (2008), in concorso alla Mostra del Cinema di Venezia. Ha firmato anche la sceneggiatura di As Melhores Coisas do Mundo (The Best Things in the World, 2010) proiettato in anteprima al Festival di Roma e premiato come migliore sceneggiatura al Festival di Recife. Rio 2096 è il suo primo lungometraggio da regista.
The protagonist and hero of the film lives through the more radical moments in Brazil’s history. Alive for more than 600 years, he himself narrates the events taking place in four different periods and, in each one of them, he fights from the side of the weakers and reencounters his true love. His love story, that surmounts life and death, crosses the story of Brazil itself and goes back to tribal wars in pre-colonial Brazil, up to the lack of water in Rio de Janeiro in a not too distant future.
Award-winning screenwriter, Luiz Bolognesi graduated in journalism from PUC São Paulo. As screenwriter, he is responsible for Bicho de Sete Cabeças (Brainstorm -2001); O Mundo em Duas Voltas (The World in Two Round Trips – 2006) and Chega de Saudade (The Ballroom – 2007). Together with Marco Bechis he wrote the screenplay for Terra Vermelha (Birdwatchers – 2008), which competed at Venice Film Festival. Luiz is also the screenwriter for the film As Melhores Coisas do Mundo (The Best Things in the World – 2010), that premiered at the Rome Film Festival and was awarded Best Screenplay at the Recife Film Festival. Rio 2096 is his first feature film as a director.
