Kate lavora all’ospedale nel dipartimento dei “Ritornati” aiutando i sopravissuti ancora infettati dal virus. La dedizione di Kate per il suo lavoro è assoluta, ma pochi sanno che si tratta anche di una questione personale: lo stesso Alex, suo marito, è un Ritornato. Dopo vari brutali attacchi da parte di gruppi Anti-Ritornati e notizie che la scorta delle “proteine” necessarie per la cura dei malati sta finendo, Kate comincia a temere per l’incolumità di Alex. Sospettosi dell’ordinanza governativa che intima a tutti i Ritornati di recarsi in una struttura medica protetta, i coniugi decidono di fuggire con tutte le dosi di proteine in loro possesso. Ma se Alex non avesse più tempo? Cosa succederebbe ad Alex, ora un fuggitivo, se venisse scoperto?
Manuel Carballo è un giovane ma esperto regista. Manuel ha una vasta esperienze dietro la telecamera. Nel 2000, ha iniziato la sua carriera cinematografica lavorando come operatore di camera in Darkness di Jaume Balagueró e Second Name di Paco Plaza. Nel 2007 FILMAX ha offerto a Manuel l’opportunità di girare il suo primo lungometraggio El último justo. Nel 2009 dirige il suo secondo lungometraggio, Exorcismus. Kate and Alex make an enviable couple. Kate works at the hospital in the Return Unit, helping those who have been infected by the virus. Kate’s dedication to her work is absolute, but few people realize that for her it is also a personal matter; Kate’s own husband, Alex, has been returned. After various brutal and prolific attacks at the hands of Anti- Return groups and rumors that the “Protein” stock is running dangerously low, Kate fears for Alex’s safety. Suspicious of the government’s order that all the returned should report to a secure medical facility, the couple decides to flee, taking with them all the doses of “Return Protein” they have. What if Alex runs out of time? And what will happen if Alex, now a fugitive, is discovered?
Manuel Carballo is a young but experienced director. Manuel has a wide range of experience behind the cameras. In the year 2000, he started his film career by working as a cameraman on Jaume Balaguero’s Darkness and Paco Plaza’s Second Name. In 2007 FILMAX presented Manuel with his first opportunità to direct a feature film with The Last of the Just. In 2009 he directed his second feature film, Exorcism. The film was very well received internationally, and after its commercial success in Spain, was also released in cinemas around the world, including the USA. The Returned is his third film.
