In un cantiere edile, dove si sta lavorando sodo sotto il caldo soffocante di Singapore, degli operai stranieri dissotterrano accidentalmente il corpo di una giovane ragazza malese. Temendo una cattiva pubblicità, Kang, uno spietato imprenditore, ordina al mite operaio cinese Peng di bruciare il cadavere. Peng trasporta la salma della ragazza in una radura fuori città, assieme a Foreman Lin, uno dei tirapiedi di Kang. Ma Peng, mosso a pietà, non riesce a bruciare il cadavere e, approfittando della blanda supervisione di Lin, decide di seppellire la ragazza, sperando che un giorno la sua famiglia possa trovarla.
Hard at work in the sweltering heat of Singapore, a group of foreign construction workers accidentally unearth the corpse of a young Malay girl. Fearing bad publicity, Kang, the site’s heartless property developer, orders Peng, a mild-mannered worker from China, to burn all traces of the body. Under the inattentive supervision of Kang’s bootlicking subordinate, Foreman Lim, Peng brings the body to an off-site location. Feeling sympathy for the girl however, Peng is unable to bring himself to burn the body. Instead, he discreetly buries her, in the hopes that she may one day be found by her family.
