The Prince’s Voyage

Dopo essere partito alla ricerca dell’ “altro mondo”, il Principe di Laankos scomparve nel mare assieme al suo esercito. Tutti pensarono che fosse morto, ma, in realtà, il Principe riuscì a raggiungere la sponda opposta. Tom, una scimmia dodicenne, lo trova là, svenuto. Lungo la costa, ai piedi di una foresta identica a quella che circonda il castello del Principe, si trova una città simile a quelle del nostro tardo Ottocento, regolata da un’incrollabile fiducia nel progresso, nella superiorità delle scimmie moderne e in una scienza saldamente consolidata. Il racconto del Principe sarà una sorta di diario di viaggio in un mondo che a noi potrebbe sembrare familiare, ma che non cesserà di stupire il Principe, scimmia del Rinascimento.

When the Prince of the Laankos went out to discover the “other world”, he disappeared into the sea with his army. Everyone thought he was dead but, in reality, the Prince managed to reach the opposite shore. Tom, a 12-yearold monkey, discovers him lying unconscious there. On this shore, at the foot of a forest identical to the one at the Prince’s castle, stands a city from a time close to ours (late 19th century), which functions on an unswerving faith in progress, the superiority of the modern monkey and in a firmly established science. The Prince’s account will be a kind of travel diary in a world that may seem familiar to us but never ceases to surprise the Prince, a monkey from the Renaissance.
